Leading men may look larger than life on the silver screen. However, there are many short men actors trailblazing in Hollywood.
Here’s a trade secret that those living outside the LAs and New Yorks of the world don’t always realize. Short male actors are ubiquitous. I’m from LA. Specifically, I grew up in Beverly Hills and went to high school in Studio City. In places like these, movie and TV stars aren’t confined to billboards and screens. They roam wild and free in their natural habitat.
I didn’t run around tape-measuring every actor I went to school with, worked with, or saw at the grocery store. However, I’ve been around enough of them. And through that, I can promise you that most, if not all, Hollywood actors are much shorter in person. I theorize it’s likely an inch or two below whatever height Google tells you.
So, the stars I’ve rounded up here may even be more modest in height than reported. Still, they’re talented, attractive, inspirational, and making waves in the industry.
12 Short Male Actors To Keep Your Eye On
These gents truly prove that height doesn’t make a man great. Looking at this list, you’ll notice a range. There are child actors turned award-winners. There are theatre stars. There are blockbuster, bankable leading men. Even if you aren’t a celebrity hound, you can take inspiration from them.
So, here they are in no particular order.
Daniel Radcliffe, Height: 5’5”

Daniel Radcliffe is an interesting case study when it comes to child actors. He obviously blew up because of his iconic debut as Harry Potter. At a young age, he became the face of one of the world’s most important franchises — one that turned a whole generation to reading.
However, he didn’t go the Leo Dicaprio route. He didn’t go from child actor to tween heartthrob to leading man to Oscar-winning A-lister. Nor did he become a has-been or go down some darker routes child actors tend to follow.
He knows that his Harry Potter earnings have him potentially set for life. So, he decided he’d just do projects he found fun. From weird indie movies to Broadway, Radcliffe has been exploring his art in a true-to-self way. Of course, he pops up in big blockbusters here and there. But commercial accolades aren’t his priority. This is commendable, considering he’s actually quite a talented actor.
Barry Keoghan, Height: 5’8”

There’s no denying that Barry Keoghan is a 2024 man of the hour. From his splashy Saltburn role to appearing in Sabrina Carpenter’s music video (a modest-heightened girl-of-the-hour), he’s in pop culture’s front lines.
Many reports say he’s anywhere between 5’6” and 5’8”. However, his small stature hasn’t stopped him from killing it in the industry. He’s won a BAFTA and earned Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
His story is also inspiring. The Irish actor grew up with a drug-addicted mother who passed when he was only 12. He spent seven years in foster care. Despite this, he carried on and is now one of the world’s most dynamic actors.
Tom Holland, Height: 5’7”

Tom Holland is an inspiration to single, short men everywhere. In 2021, he and Zendaya became Instagram official. Neither he nor she seems to have an issue with the fact she stands at a modelesque 5’10”. In fact, he lets her tower over her. Unlike in so many short-guy-tall-girl relationships, he doesn’t seem to have an issue with her wearing high heels when they’re together.
I was quite the comic book nerd growing up. I very much enjoyed the early-aughts superhero movies before they became an overwhelmingly large category of their own. Spider-Man is one of my favorites, and I’d be wholly disappointed if Marvel Studios ever cast tall Spider-Man — he was never taller than 5’10” in the comics.
In addition to being a talented actor who can nab a beautiful woman, Holland is an accomplished dancer. As a child, he was in the Billy Elliot musical.
Jeremy Allen White, Height: 5’7”

Few TV actors have experienced the meteoric rise of Jeremy Allen White in the past few years. His hit show The Bear spawned fame, critical accolades, and many brand endorsements. He famously bared his abs in Calvin Klein’s best boxer briefs, causing women all over to say, “Yes, chef.”
This New York-born talent started as a dancer, like Tom Holland. And like Holland and many top-notch danseurs (Baryshnikov, anyone?), he’s a short fellow. But again, one that still catches the eyes of the ladies.
Mark Wahlberg, Height: 5’8”

Mark Wahlberg never let his below-average height (for America) stop him from being one of the most bankable stars of our time. On top of being a box office draw, he’s definitely a good star to turn to for fitness inspiration.
He’s taken full advantage of his mesomorph body type and is built like Superman. Still, he’s a good example of a short, muscular guy. He doesn’t fall into the trap of looking even shorter because of his mass. And he still looks great in clean tailoring, whereas many large-framed muscular men often look bulky.
Ke Huy Quan, Height: 5’4”
View this post on Instagram
The ultimate comeback kid, Ke Huy Quan, became Hollywood’s nucleus of positivity and inspiration in 2022. After a 19-year acting hiatus, Quan returned to a new, more accepting movie industry.
His role in Everything Everywhere All at Once earned him a Golden Glove, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an Academy Award. His profound gratefulness and unique energy during his acceptance speech ensured that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
As a child, Quan played two iconic ‘80s movie characters: Data in The Goonies and Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. As much as those are two of the most beloved characters committed to screen, these roles definitely pigeonholed him.
It may have taken two decades for a major comeback, but it was an inspirational moment — one much-needed in such hectic times.
Andrew Scott, Height: 5’8”

Andrew Scott is another long-time, genuine thespian who has become a recent man of the hour. This is thanks to roles in All of Us Strangers and Ripley. And, of course, he played Dr. Moriarty in the BBC series Sherlock, which earned him a BAFTA.
The British film and TV scene, think BBC, often churns out trained actors more than Hollywood. Scott actually won a bursary for art school but instead went to Trinity College to study drama. He left to join Dublin’s Abbey Theatre.
Scott won two Laurence Olivier Awards. He won one for Present Laughter in The Old Vic theatre and one for A Girl in a Car with a Man at the Royal Court Theatre. I know him as the secret villain wearing a James Bond-esque suit in the franchise’s film Spectre.
Nick Jonas, Height: 5’6”

While Jonas may be known for being one-third of his brother’s musical act, he’s also graced several small and big screens. As with any former child star who came up in the Disney Channel, the brand required him to sing and act. He and his brothers had their own show on Disney. However, he’s also starred in many big-budget and indie films and a few TV shows.
I also want to point out that he’s married to beauty queen and Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra. Again, these guys prove that height doesn’t need to be an issue in the dating department.
Martin Short, Height: 5’8”

Older generations remember Martin Short as a Saturday Night Live staple in the ‘80s who launched a highly successful comedy film career. Younger folks recognize him from Only Murders in the Building. In the hit series, he stars alongside Selena Gomez and fellow SNL-alum Steve Martin.
The Canadian-born talent is a writer and an actor known for his signature energetic style.
Rami Malek, Height: 5’7”

Rami Malek is one of Hollywood’s most prolific stars, and boy does his resume range. The Egyptian-American actor was in the critically acclaimed Oppenheimer and played a pharaoh in the family film Night at the Museum.
He did an excellent job showing us his comedic chops on SNL. And, of course, he played legendary musician Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Mercury may have been almost six feet tall, but Malek embodied him perfectly.
Zac Efron, Height: 5’8”
View this post on Instagram
Zac Efron is anywhere between 5’7” and 5’8”, but he often looks taller because of his proportions. Hollywood casting agents often care more about proportions than actual height. Unlike supermodels, who often do their craft live on runways and presentations, actors only need to look tall on screen.
That being the case, Efron is a good actor to turn to for fashion. He does an excellent job of using proportions, colors, and patterns to make him look taller than he is. And he’s never let his height stop him from being a heartthrob. He’s gone from tween idol to leading man, growing up with his female admirers.
Robert Downey Jr, Height: 5’8”
View this post on Instagram
Robert Downey Jr. wears shoe lifts, so while his height is reportedly 5’8”, he’s likely much shorter. I’ve also seen him in person many times. I don’t think he’s taller than me, and I’m 5’7”. I’m not slandering him, by the way. He admits to being an elevator shoe enthusiast.
Besides, he’s a wildly talented actor who’s fought and won against addiction. And he’s such a good example of someone who wants to earn his keep.
He agreed to only $500,000 in earnings for the first Iron Man. Considering it had a budget of 140million, and he was the lead, this is shocking. But Downing Jr. knew he didn’t have the box office draw he used to. And he knew he had to earn back Hollywood’s trust. And he certainly did. Today, that moment of humbleness has paid off. He’s the biggest star of the superhero genre, so much so that Marvel even asked him back to play Dr. Doom.
Conclusion: A Fun Fact About Shortness in Hollywood
There are short gents in every industry proving to us that height doesn’t matter when it comes to success and looking good. Short male actors are just a great short-hand (pun intended) for this reality because they’re so public. We all know them.
And here’s another fun tidbit about Hollywood. Did you notice that many short male actors started out as child stars? It’s because, for child stars, casting agents prefer shorter kids. This is because even as they age up, they can continue to play younger characters instead of rushing to produce sequels.
So, truly, being short is a plus in Hollywood!

Don’t see any Culkins listed here, or Jonas Brothers, Jamie Cullen, and a number of guys in Game of Thrones. DZ (5’5.5″)

An interesting site. Of course, most men are actually a bit shorter than the height they’re listed as usually, 1-3 inches shorter. I’m about the same height and body weight as Breckin Meyer. Tall photographers taking photos of shorter men usually focus in a downward direction making their legs look shorter etc.
David Zelisney: 5’5; 5’5.5 in shoes.
