Interested in a Popov leather wallet? Here’s what you should know before buying (spoiler alert: it’s awesome).
A good leather wallet will hold your cards and cash.
A great leather wallet will do that while looking stylish and lasting for years.
But the best leather wallets? They have to do all of that and be offered at a fair price.
I’ve tried out a lot of wallets over the years — from big bifolds and trifolds to minimalist and metal newcomers — but keep coming back to leather wallets as my usual standby.
So, I decided to pick up Popover’s leather wallet and see how it compares to the rest of my collection.
In this Popov Leather Wallet review, I’ll share my insights on their most popular wallet (the Leather Card Holder) as well as some background information on the brand itself.
About Popov Leather
The story of Popov Leather is very much unlike the other brands we usually feature here.
It all started back in 2013 as a passion project for the company’s founder, Ryan Popoff.
With little more than scrap leather and a newly purchased tool kit, he started spending his nights designing and testing a leather wallet that could smoothly fit in his front pocket.
Today, almost 10 years after its inception and after gaining some social media exposure, Popov Leather has expanded its team and its range of leather goods offerings. Even after their rapid growth, all their products are still handmade in Canada, which is rather unusual for a brand.
What I Tested: The Popov Leather Card Holder
Since I’ve liked many of the more minimalist wallets I’ve tried in the past, I decided to test out Popov’s Leather Card Holder.
It has a very simple design that I really like. It’s basically just two pieces of leather folded over each other and stitched together.
One side of the wallet has a more exposed card slot, while the other is covered up. That, combined with a slot in the middle, gives plenty of room for about six cards and a few folded-up bills, all while staying smooth and subtle in your front pocket.
The quality of leather and craftsmanship used here is pretty impressive, too.
You can choose your color of leather and color of thread for each of these wallets (though the options are somewhat limited). After you place your order, your wallet is then handcrafted and given hand-burnished edges that are durable and look nice.
Overall, this is a great, simple wallet with a small footprint and slim profile. And for the price (around $70 at full price, or even less when it’s on sale), it’s one heck of a high-quality wallet.
Popov Leather Pros
I have a lot of good things to say about my experience with Popov Leather.
First, the quality of their goods is incredible for the price. It’s really hard to find anything even close to the handmade, Horween leather quality for the same price.
Popov also has really thoughtful designs for each of their wallets and accessories. You can tell they’ve put a lot of attention to detail into making each item as good as it can be.
And while I didn’t need to use their customer service (no problems with anything, really), other reports online say they’re great whenever an issue arises. I should mention, they offer a lifetime warranty on all of their products.
So overall, Popov Leather has a lot going for it as a brand. If you’re looking for any leather accessories, they’re always going to be a great option.
Popov Leather Cons
There really isn’t much bad to say about Popov Leather.
If you’re used to having a huge range of color selections for your leather goods, you might be a little disappointed. Popov’s items are all pretty much limited to a range of browns and a black option, with similar thread colors.
Additionally, if you really need RFID protection in your wallet, Popov might not be the first best choice. They offer an RFID-blocking accessory, but it will really bulk up your wallet.
But overall? Those are really small issues compared to how overwhelmingly positive the rest of my experience with Popov has been.
