Curious about the Bellroy Key Cover? This review has all the details you need to know.
I’ve been using the Bellroy Key Cover and Key Cover Plus for years now and am continually impressed with how well-made and useful they are. That’s why I thought it was about time to share my experiences with you and cover the details of my daily use with the Key Cover.
It’s one of the best key organizers out there, so if you’re considering adding one to your EDC kit, read on.
Quick Take
Bellroy has come up with a unique format for their Key Cover that’s definitely worth checking out. And, with two sizes to choose from (Key Cover and Key Cover Plus), they go out of their way to make sure that everybody’s keys can fit in.
Pros
- Both sizes are really well designed and feel smooth to use
- Unique format may appeal to people who aren’t keen on flip-out key organizers
- Great quality leather build, magnet closure is really nice too
- Lots of colors to choose from
Cons
- If you have a key fob, it has to attach to the outside
- Original Key Cover is probably too small for most people’s keys
There’s even a place for bulky car keys that most key organizers can’t accommodate.
About Bellroy
Bellroy is one of the biggest brand names in today’s everyday carry gear world. They focus on making gear with sleek and minimalist designs.
From wallets to backpacks to cell phone cases and key organizers, the folks at Bellroy are doing their best to cover all the bases for anything you could want to carry with you daily.
There’s a whole lot more than just good looks behind Bellroy’s gear, too (though their wide range of colors is a big plus).
As a company, they’re also committed to transitioning to environmentally sustainable materials and production processes like using eco-tanned leather, recycled fabrics, and plant-based materials wherever possible.
What I Like
To really cover everything, you need to know about Bellroy’s Key Cover. First, we’ll need to talk about both the original and the Key Cover Plus.
With a fold-out design that’s unique for a key organizer, the Key Cover was Bellroy’s first take on this style. Not too long after the original, Bellroy also released a Key Cover Plus that’s significantly bigger and can easily hold modern car keys with larger plastic heads.
That means for most people, the Key Cover Plus is probably the better option.
The Key Cover will be really easy to set up no matter which option you choose. So, if you need to take out a key to loan it to a friend or bring it with you for a run, it won’t take nearly as long as with other types of key organizers.
The unique format for the Key Cover means it can fold down flat like a minimalist wallet, so it won’t disrupt the lines of your jacket or pants. That’s really nice if you’re already going for a clean, minimalist look with your outfits and everyday carry accessories.
Lastly, the Key Covers really have a premium look and feel.
They’re made of high-quality leather that will develop a nice patina over time and just feel overall really solidly built. Plus, you can get them in a pretty wide variety of colors to match your favorite color schemes.
What I Don’t Like
Honestly, I don’t have much of anything bad to say about Bellroy’s Key Cover (or Key Cover Plus).
It’s been one of my top two key organizers for years now, and I regularly carry it with me everywhere I go since its design can actually hold my big bulky car key.
Maybe the only thing I actually don’t like here is having to narrow down my options between the Key Cover and Key Cover Plus, i.e., there’s not really any middle ground.
The Key Cover only holds a few small keys, making it feel very minimalist. Whereas the Key Cover Plus is one of the bigger key organizers you’ll find, which might not be for everyone.
If you’re trying to decide between the two styles, know that they’re both really well made.
FAQs
To wrap everything up, let’s take a closer look at some of the most common questions I’ve heard guys asking about the Bellroy Key Cover. That’ll give you the final details you need to decide whether it’s the best key organizer for you.
How Do I Use My Bellroy Key Cover?
So the Bellroy Key Cover is really easy to use overall — it’s actually one of the quickest key organizers to set up that I’ve tried. Just open the key cover, pull out the inner band and metal pin, and push it through the head of your key to secure them.
If you have a key fob too, that’ll go on the outside of the key cover.
Is the Bellroy Key Cover Good?
Honestly, yeah. The Bellroy Key Cover is awesome. You can get it in two sizes to fit however many keys you have, and the Plus size is big enough to hold car keys too.
The design is unique enough that you won’t find many other key organizers like it, and the build quality is top-notch.
Is Bellroy Better Than Orbitkey?
Now, this is a tough one. Orbitkey and Bellroy are both awesome key organizers, but they’re so different too — the designs take two totally different approaches to keeping your keys in place.
Probably if you have just a few keys or want to use keychain-sized EDC accessories, Orbitkey is better. But if you’re mainly carrying a house and car key and have a few extras, the Bellroy Key Cover is probably the better fit.
Final Verdict
Overall the Bellroy Key Cover is definitely approved by The Modest Man.
The build quality is fantastic, the format is unique and useful, and the two size options mean that just about anyone can find the right Key Cover to fit their needs.
If you’re looking for a clean and smooth way to keep your keys organized, I think Bellroy’s Key Cover should be at the top of your list.
