Are you looking for jogger pants for short guys? I’m here to explore the topic and offer a few excellent picks!
When it comes to fashion, athleisure has had a particularly interesting journey. Many menswear essentials, like polos and white
The floppy velour and windbreaker style pants in these sets have evolved today into a combination of clean-lined style with athletic practicality. You can even wear some in smart casual style contexts.
So, we’re rounding up the best joggers for short men. Whether you’re looking for genuine gym wear, something for lounging at home, or cleaner, brighter pants, all priorities are represented. But first, can short men wear joggers?
Can Short Men Wear Joggers?
Yes, short men can wear joggers. I know that the cinched hems and the casual fit can make certain guys feel insecure. Many joggers out there flaunt clean lines and a flattering cut. If you stick to the right inseams and ensure there’s less slack in the fit, you can wear joggers even if you’re short. You can even go for looser, more comfortable fits if there’s a slight taper.
However, as with any time you dress, consider your day. If it’s the weekend and your day calls for lounging or running errands, keep comfortable in joggers. However, if you’re dressing for your work day and your office is business formal, leave them tucked away in your dresser.
Knowing when (and when not) to wear joggers is a fundamental step in adding them to your wardrobe. Once you know the best options for your body type and lifestyle, you’ll definitely reach for them time and time again.
Joggers for Short Men: Our Picks
Here are some excellent joggers for us men of modest height. We considered personal style, practicality and function, and price. I know some of you may want joggers to lounge in and take to the gym. Perhaps you want a serious, technical jogger. Or maybe you just want something comfortable and stylish for casual days. I considered all of your priorities!
Ash & Erie Hybrid Jogger
Ash & Erie makes one of the best short-guy joggers on the market. Their Hybrid joggers have a stylish look and lightweight construction similar to Lululemon joggers. However, they offer a short inseam, making them comfortable and easy to move in and flattering on smaller guys.
They feature four-way stretch, are abrasion-resistant, and, in my opinion, are the perfect airport pants.
Western Rise Spectrum Jogger
I added the Western Rise Spectrum Jogger because it’s so well-built. However, the fit isn’t great for anyone 5’5” and under. Still, if you’re 5’7” (like me) or 5’8” (still under the US average), these are a perfect jogger.
The warp-knit fabric provides technical-level mobility and stretch. Meanwhile, the zip pockets on the front and back are convenient. These pants are definitely suitable for an outdoor run.
In our Western Rise review, we mention that it’s a bit too athletic for a traditional office. I agree. Still, if you wear it with an outfit that covers the stretchy waist, you can pull off a nice high-low combo with a blazer.
Tommy John Downtime Jogger
As its name implies, the Tommy John Downtime Jogger is for lounging around the house. However, thanks to its stretchy and comfortable modal, spandex, and durable acrylic blend, you can work out easily in these. You have to love that versatility.
Even more, most lounge pants tend to be long. However, as our Tommy John review mentioned, men in the 5’4” to 5’6” range can wear these with no drag. The cinched hems help with this.
Ellesse Ovest Jog Pant
Ellesse made the Ovest Jog Pants in a standard fit. Mercifully, though, they also come in an XS size.
It’s made from a brushed-back jersey, which gives it a soft, fleece-like feel. It’s almost like a classic sweatpant but with a modern jogger’s clean, flattering silhouette. The bright red Ellesse logo isn’t for everyone, but I like the pop of color.
Southpole Basic Fleece Jogger
The Southpole Fleece Jogger is an excellent budget option. It features a cozy yet strong polyester construction while also sporting a cool aesthetic. A solid black drawstring and hems accent the marled black and white weave. Take this jogger on a run or pair it with a solid black tee for a streetwear-meets-athleisure look.
The inseams in sizes XS and S are 29” and 29.5”, respectively. The longer the size, the longer the inseam. If you’re a modest man with long legs, the Southpole fleece joggers may work for you. However, this pick may be too long if you have a shorter inseam.
Champion Jogger
Throwing it back to a classic, the Champion Jogger works as well as it always has. It comes in a small size; however, like the Western Rise option, I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone 5’5” or under because of the standard-fit 31-inch inseam. Still, I wanted to give an option to those of you who still like a breezier fit. Fit aside, this is a function-forward, high-value jogger that’s also easy to maintain.
Under 510 Jogger
We’ve reviewed Under 510, a solid brand known for making clothes for shorter guys. They have two top-notch jogger options, both of which are available in sizes 28 and 24 inseam.
The athletic joggers are more like full-on performance joggers, with a light, moisture-managing polyester and spandex construction. The Flex Jogger, with its stretchy rayon, nylon, and spandex composition, has a more everyday wear vibe. Both are good for errands, working out, or lounging. I especially love the modern, sectioned-off look of both designs.
Bantam Clothing Jogger
The Bantam Joggers are a good balance of a modern, slick jogger and an old-school sweatpant. They have a clean taper, but they aren’t tight or even slim.
The cotton-poly blend is as soft and stretchy as classic sweatpants. Do you want something as cozy and easy to wear as loose-fit sweatpants but way more flattering and modern? Go for Bantam.
Bonobos Homestretch Jogger
I love the color options Bonobos offers with its Homestretch joggers. I’m not surprised, though; Bonobos is all about options, offering the same kind of range with its chinos and suit pants.
There are neutrals like gray and cream, as well as more expressive colors. The red hue of the Cinnamon colorway is striking but not loud, and the turquoise shade of the Ink Blue is truly distinct.
Bonobos also makes a hybrid pant called the Off Duty. These are not made for heavy-duty workouts, but they’re formal enough for everyday outfits while sporting a lot of athletic functionality.
Lululemon Joggers
It’s a shame that Lululemon doesn’t make a lot of joggers that are conducive to the super short guy. They have some of the best (and most popular) athleisure on the market. However, the Engineered Warmth Joggers are an excellent exception.
They’re slim fit, tapered, and offer an XS option. Meanwhile, the wool blend is naturally thermoregulating. These are a good and practical choice if you’re trying to put together a casual outfit with joggers.
A7 Defy Jogger
The Defy Joggers are for proper, competition-level strength trainers. The premium, moisture-wicking, four-way stretch construction ensures you can comfortably pull off that deadlift. They’re also good for everyday guys who just want to lounge around.
The best part? The brand markets them as unisex sizing, with an XS option.
How To Shorten Joggers
There are a few ways to shorten joggers, some easier than others. The Modest Man always recommends enlisting the help of a tailor to alter your clothes. It’s nice knowing you have a closet of clothes that provides you with the perfect fit every time you reach for them.
However, we also know that tailoring all your clothes might exceed your budget. Therefore, the most permanent way is to just hem them with a sewing machine or needle and thread. You can also use hem adhesive or your girlfriend’s hair tie in a pinch.
Still, I recommend just getting the right size, especially since you know you have options now!
Joggers vs Sweatpants
Yes, there’s certainly a difference if you’re looking at joggers versus sweatpants. Joggers are often slimmer, lighter, and meant for workouts and even everyday wear. Sweatpants are thicker and built for cold weather or for working up a sweat. You can use both for working out or lounging. However, joggers are more conducive to the former, while sweatpants the latter.
FAQs
Still have questions about joggers? Here are the most commonly asked ones!
Do Joggers Look Good on Short People?
Yes, with the right fit, joggers are an excellent casual pair of pants for short people. Stick to shorter inseams, slimmer fits, or at least tapered fits.
Can Joggers Be Made Shorter?
You (or a professional tailor) can hem the length of any pair of pants. However, I recommend checking out XS options, especially specialty brands focusing on short men. They’ve come a long way.
How Short Can Joggers Be?
Joggers should end right above your shoes. The taper ensures it moves up a bit as you run, as any slack can get in the way of mobility.
Conclusion: The Right Joggers for You
Thankfully, these days, some brands make joggers for short men. Fit is so important when it comes to joggers. If the inseam is off or if it’s too baggy, you either look shorter than you are or like a kid who raided Dad’s closet.
Want color options? Check out Bonobos. Something pro-level? A7 has you covered. I think Ash & Erie offers an effective balance of style and functionality. It’s just a matter of considering your priorities and choosing the model (or models) for you.

It would be helpful if you told us your height

Brock is 5’6″ while wearing boots. (So, like 5’4″, or so)

Hi,
Do you know where to get jogger pants for a short (5’2”) OLDER guy with a larger 43” waist but skinny legs? My poor dad has decreased in stature over the years and most pants are made for slim people. He looks like he’s drowning in most pants that fit his waist cuz the rest is huge!
Same for shirts… shoulders too wide and sleeves too long for his girth.
Help!

Are they Hylete Flexion II good as regular 24.5 inseam, long 26.5, or regular 25.5? I’m about 5’7″ and don’t want a pair too long. I think I can get away with a 30″ waist. Just bigger thighs.
Bruce says
Hey Brock – Solid article. At 5’ and built like an endurance athlete, would they Hylete work? Or would you stick with Ash & Erie or 5’10 and under? Tough to discern which you think are best.
Brock McGoff says
At 5′ flat I think Ash & Erie or U510 would be a good fit. Hylete would probably be a little long, but man, they’re VERY high quality!
Elaine says
Thank you so much for doing this research! I’m buying for a college football player who is 5’8, but extremely muscular—about 195 pounds. Does not miss leg day at all; very built through the rear and legs. Which brand did you find the most roomy without being a tent?
Brock McGoff says
At 5’8″ and muscular, most mainstream brands should fit just fine. Of the brands I’ve tried, I’d probably go with Hylete.
Ken says
Why are you not including the Peter Manning joggers? They make a few varieties including an all-day jogger and a sport-tech jogger. All designed for shorter men and have shorter inseams.
I think they are better or at least equal to your top Ash and Erie choice.
Brock says
I found their all day jogger to be really baggy through the leg but tight in the hips. Also, the material and color choices weren’t great (hard to pair with other items). Their sport jogger was very tight in the hips, to the point where I couldn’t wear them.
For me, other brands have worked much better, including Ash & Erie.

This is super helpful. I have a 13-yr-old who needs men’s sizes but is only 5’3″. He prefers joggers over any other pants, so I have ordered a couple of pairs for him to try from almost every website you recommended. Thanks for helping a mom out!

Who makes that white henley your wearing? So difficult for me to find a henley with a good sleeve size!
Anna Hall says
This information is so great and very much appreciated. Thankyou.
I’ve been having such trouble to find the right size and leg length for my other half. He prefers elasticated cuff but I’m sure he will love lululemons ones.
One happy lady

My fav joggers is the lightweight homestretch jogger from Bonobos. They have inseam length available in 27″
Malcolm Smith says
Hello, I’m pretty difficult to fit in joggers. My waist is 38, but I’m 5’ 7”, yeah I know little chunky in middle. Also it’s hard to find joggers to fit inseam, hips, waist. I’m like a short chunky fire hydrant. I measured my jeans that actually fit and they measure 27” inseam. I’m pretty much like other short men, waist fits but the length is too long or waist is too small but length is just right. If I have to get women’s size just to fit so be it, most joggers I’ve seen you can’t tell they’re women’s joggers. Any suggestions

Wings + Horns Cabin Fleece Joggers. I’m 5”6 and the inseam is almost right. I think it read 26” on the site. Material and design are also excellent.

Thanks for this article! I’m 5’5” and on the heavier side (for now, that’s why I want to get some good workout pants). This seems like a good guide to get me started on my search. Would love to see a guide for some recommendations for all sorts of clothing for heavier short guys, we want to look good too!

After reading your article, I decided to buy two Peter Manning All Day Sweatpants (Grey and Navy). I’m 5’6”, 160 lbs. (gained 15 pounds during COVID-19 quarantine), waist 32-34 inches, and inseam 28-29 inches. I bought the 30 / 32 waist x 25 inseam; and it’s a perfect fit since the waistband is elastic so there’s lots of give (for the recent weight gain). It’s not a “slim fit”, but that suits me because I’ve got thick calves. As with all short guys, the inseam was the big question. The 25-inch inseam ends above my ankle bone which is the perfect length. The thickness of the sweatpants cotton was a very pleasant surprise. I was expecting sweatpants that were lighter and thinner (similar to what you’d find at Old Navy or the Gap) so I’m really happy at the thickness of the Peter Manning sweatpants.

I am glad you cover this subject. I look forward to visiting their websites. Thank you.

Fabletics men has joggers in 26” inseam. Really good quality too.

Thanks for this recommendation! I was a bit wary of jumping into their “VIP” thing they seem to push so I just ordered a pair of the Takeover pants in a XS with 25″ inseam at retail, which was the last one in stock. For reference, I am 5’6″ with pretty short legs. They fit great and are more like a hybrid pant/tight where they have a little room on the top, but hug around the calves downward. I am thinking of trying some of their joggers, but still don’t know if I want to sign up for VIP even though there’s heavy “discounts”.

I’m a huge fan of Public Rec. They offer the All Day Every Day Pant (no cuffed hem), joggers, and the Stadium Jogger (a lighter version of traditional jogger). Public Rec offers both waist and inseam just like jeans or chinos, even in 28″. For fit, comfort and quality, they’re the best in the business imo. Additionally they offer other items like henleys and bomber jackets.
Ron Mora says
The Ace Sweatpants from Mack Wheldon are the most comfortable and surprisingly best fitting joggers I have purchased. Their site says a small has an inseam of 30″ but it fits me perfect (I’m 5’4″). I gave it try after I read reviews with comments being slightly shorter in length. They were right cause the Small fits me perfect. I now have 5 of these sweatpants.
Jesse says
For the Fit also makes various joggers and lounge-type pants specifically for shorter men.
TS says
I’m probably a 27-28 inseam. I have been wearing Marine layer and Vuori joggers. I think it helps when they are cuffed at the bottom. I also agree with Lululemon ABC joggers. They fit great as well.
David G says
I believe LuLulemon will hem any pair of pants you buy from them for free. Even joggers.
